Who we are

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004 after noticing the huge volume of food going to waste, OzHarvest quickly grew to become Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. Food is at our core, saving surplus food from ending up in landfill and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. We are committed to halving food waste by 2030, inspiring and influencing others to do the same, and transforming lives through education.

320M

Meals Delivered

Starting with one van in Sydney back in 2004, OzHarvest has grown to become a national charity. 320 million meals later, it was obviously a good idea!

We were lucky to have Chef @daniellemariealvarez in our kitchen, and we had questions. 🙋

From her most underrated ingredient to her go-to fridge cleanout recipe, Danielle shared her hot takes while cooking alongside Team @oxoaustralia for a very special session of Cooking for a Cause, our signature corporate volunteering experience.

And when we asked her what she thought? She called it rewarding and fun. We couldn’t agree more. 💛

Thank you Chef Danielle and Team OXO for rolling up your sleeves to make nourishing meals for people in need.

One year ago, we opened the doors of our new hub in Melbourne’s southeast, and what a year it’s been! We’ve expanded our reach from three trucks to five in that time and rescued over 1.3 million kgs of food, enabling 2.6 million meals to go to 78 charities across the region, who are coping with the rising demand for food relief.

Volunteers from local charity Find a Penny, Sharon and Doinita, once received food but now volunteer, giving back to the very community that supported them. Food is always at the heart of our impact. 💛

Our hub is a hive of activity, creating strong community connections every day. A huge thank you to our food donors, drivers, volunteers, and charity partners who make this impact possible every single day.

Special thanks to the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing who gave us the grant to develop the hub, and to our National Food Rescue Partner @woolworths_au who enabled the additional runs. 💛
