ABC GIVES APPEAL
ABC Radio is supporting OzHarvest in ACT, NSW and VIC for this year’s ABC Gives Appeal, bringing attention to food waste and food insecurity, and highlighting our work in local communities. This year more people than ever need our help and we are struggling to meet the demand for food from the charities we support. Every dollar donated allows us to deliver two meals to someone in need.

OzHarvest in ACT
Our small but mighty Canberra-based team is incredibly busy, with two vans supporting 75 local charities, school and community groups. Since 2008, more than 3,000 tonnes of surplus food have been saved from ending up in landfill. The last two years has seen a drastic rise in demand for food in ACT and the team are now delivering 15,000 meals every week.

OzHarvest in NSW
Our journey began in Sydney, with Ronni rescuing food in one van! Since then, it has grown to 25 yellow vans across NSW, delivering around 30,000 meals every day to support 1,000 local charities in metro and regional locations. We also feed local communities through three special projects – the OzHarvest Market in Waterloo, Refettorio OzHarvest in Surry Hills and our mobile market is currently helping flood affected families in the Northern Rivers area.
