OzHarvest Hamper Hubs are a new emergency food relief service for vulnerable members of the community, supporting international students and temporary visa holders especially. This initiative is available thanks to funding from the City of Sydney and NSW Government, nib Health Funds along with retail space provided by Mirvac.
Each week, OzHarvest provides a limited number of Food Relief Hampers and frozen ready-to-eat meals available at ‘pop up’ locations in Sydney. The delicious, quality meals provided are made weekly by OzHarvest chefs and hospitality partners.
Since 21 May, OzHarvest has opened up Hamper Hubs at Mirvac locations including Harbourside and Rhodes.
Over 2,000 hampers filled with fresh fruit, vegetables, ready to cook soup packs and essential food staples like pasta, rice, muesli, milk and tinned food items have been distributed at Harbourside and Rhodes to date.
This is the equivalent of 20,000+ kilos of food provided to help people doing it tough due to job losses, financial hardship and pressures that Covid has placed on families and individuals.
A total of 1,600 cooked meals prepared by OzHarvest chefs and our ambassadors has also been shared with those visiting the Hamper Hubs for emergency food relief.
The OzHarvest Hamper Hubs will operate every Thursday from 12pm – 4pm and international students and temporary visa holders are able to register at https://events.ozharvest.org/hamper
“I lost my job in hospitality two months ago and have been living off my super but now that has run out I am hoping now that restaurants are starting to open, I will find a new job.”
“It is very good to receive food relief during these times. Before we had constraints to buy food, we could only buy limited food because of financial hardship. By receiving this food it helps me through the week. I used to work part time at SCG so I have lost all my shifts. I study as well.”
