Third Adelaide food rescue van Marigold 6 months!

by

It has been six months since our third van ‘Marigold’ began delivering goodness throughout the southern suburbs of Adelaide. Having this third van on the road has already created a significant impact on our community and the environment and we are quite proud of that!

While our target was to deliver 150,000 meals in the first six months, Marigold has now rescued and delivered 169,228 meals! Each weekday Marigold travels from our headquarters in Goodwood throughout the southern suburbs to Aldinga and sometimes as far as Meadows and Myponga.

This has enabled us to deliver good nutritious food to an additional 18 charitable Agencies (including The Salvation Army, Fred’s Vans, Anglicare, Junction Australian, Aldinga Beach Children’s Centre and Re-Engage Youth Services) who are all so grateful for our support.  There are currently 9 more agencies on our waiting list which we will endeavour to begin deliveries to over the coming months as the run continues to grow.

With thanks to our many regular food donors (including Colonnades Shopping Centre retailers, Home Grain Bakery, Serafino Winery, Thommason’s Food Store, McLaren Vale Fruit and Veg, Ellis Butchers, Kytons Bakery, B.d Farm Paris Creek and Fleurieu Milk) 56 tonnes of good food has been diverted from landfill and 90,254kg co2-eq greenhouse gas emissions prevented from entering our atmosphere.

Also, with thanks to Macquarie Group Foundation and Morialta trust we have received additional funding to implement a central, early-morning run to utilise Marigold when she is not travelling south. This will enable us to increase our efficiencies across our entire service and deliver to more agencies in the North and West.

We could not have provided this impact to our community and the environment without our major sponsors and friends who generously donated time and money towards this project:

“You guys have taken us to the next level and it’s clear everyday from the smiles on everybody’s face… I want to say to your amazing staff from all of us, the families, the kids – Thank you thank you so much for believing in Breakfastbellies.
