500 pop-up OzHarvest Mobile Markets

by

The OzHarvest Mobile Market recently held its 500th market and is continuing to deliver nourishing food to regional communities across NSW, thanks to ongoing support from the NSW Government and partner, cold storage company Chill.

For over a year, the two Mobile Markets have regularly visited 32 regional towns and been recognised as a force for good. More than 212,000kg of fresh produce and dry goods has been distributed by the team, who gave out more than 1,000 hampers to families in need last month.

Throughout NSW’s latest lockdowns, the team has continued to connect with local organisations and communities supporting families doing it tough. The Mobile Market service has been extended to help meet demand, travelling up north to New England, past Armidale and Moree, throughout the Central West past Dubbo. And down through the South Coast through the Riverina region past Wagga, out into the Snowy Monaro region.

Gabriella Dal Pozzo, OzHarvest Mobile Market Manager, explains, “Due to the challenges that so many regional towns endured, including the current restrictions and increased unemployment due to COVID-19, the aftermath of the drought and devastating bushfires, ongoing mental health issues and pension limitations, more people than ever need our help.”

“The OzHarvest team is continuously overwhelmed by the warm welcome and support from inspiring rural community leaders, which ensures we can continue to deliver good food, comfort and hope for these beautiful communities, many who often feel forgotten.”

Heather from Pilliga, said, “The OzHarvest Mobile Market team are hard-working and really pleasant visitors. We have been through some difficult times in recent years, so it was nice to see their smiling faces every few weeks with a positive purpose. The produce is always excellent quality and without a doubt has been very helpful to a lot of individuals and families.”

The OzHarvest Mobile Market is supported by Chill who extended their partnership for another year, sponsoring both vans. With a long history of supporting community projects, this partnership reflects Chill’s commitment to a brighter future that champions sustainable innovations.

Jo McGee, National Partnerships Manager, explained that this partnership has helped keep the Mobile Market’s wheels turning. “Thanks to Chill providing two refrigerated vans, we can continue to reach vulnerable regional communities across NSW. Their ongoing support has enabled the program to grow even more this year.”
